Mosaic inserts are ceramic shapes that can be used as focal points on mosaics and is quite an easy way for beginners to start mosaicing. .
Below is a picture of a mosaic framed mirror I did for a client in Hout Bay, Cape Town using the inserts. I sent them the mosaic frame on the board, and they installed it to site, including the mirror. It may be under cover but it is still outdoors- so it must be able to withstand rain splashes, and temperature changes over the seasons. If you want to know how to mosaic like this (its very easy- just time consuming)- see posts on this topic elsewhere on this blog.

Here are some photos of just a few of our mosaic inserts we have available at the Pottery house. So if you are a mosaic artist, driving on the National Road between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, you HAVE to stop by and visit our studio and showroom. If you are a bargain hunter- you will be in heaven. Scratch around in the seconds box for really, really inexpensive things. We are just off the N2, on the eastern side of Knysna. Turn into Bokmakierie St, and we are right there. You cant miss the mermaid waving at you. .

Hi there, what a stunning blog. I'm an mosaic amateur and need all the advise and ideas I can get! Could I order some of your inserts from Gauteng? And what would the prices be?

Your work is beautiful - I adore your fish!
ReplyDeleteMarylou, thank you for catching up with me. I love your blog and will follow it now that I've found it. My next big mosaic project is a shower and I'm hoping to do something along your 'tree of life' mosaic. Will be in touch. I miss my other Marylou mosaic in the old house!
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued that this post is the most popular one on my blog. There are 26 published posts on my blog to date- and the others arent getting as many views at all. I really should work on that.
ReplyDeleteWow. what stunning work and lovely mosaics. i am also a beginner. i love the leaf tiles you make. there are no pottery classes near me, as I would like to make my own ceramic tiles. I have browsed your blogs and I am so in awe of your work. A very talented lady. Thankyou for having this blog, as to also encourage and inspire the many viewers to become their creative beings. ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice words, Rochelle. It is so unusual to get a comment that I CAN publish, as the spammers out there are relentless. I am so glad I have inspired a few people to get creative.
